WHICH SHAPES DO YOU SURF?
All of them… because I want to test them. Which I do, because I love surfboards… well, boards in general I think.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR IN A SURFBOARD?
Drive and the ability to hold on rail. Plus a sufficient amount of planing surface and volume – I hate it, if you get stuck in a bottom turn or while trimming along a face… really tells you how bad of a surfer you are if this happens hahaha. I also like feeling a nice roll over lateral from rail to rail. So basically balance I would think.
WHAT IS YOUR STANDARD SIZE AND VOLUME FOR SURFING?
2 1/2’‘ or 2 5/8’‘ on thickness. Cannot really give length and width dims since I am changing models quite often but as I said: a touch more volume… so for my weight that would be 33 liters and more. Except for classic performance shortboards. Additional volume doesn’t really make sense to me in these kind of shapes. That’s why I only ride these shapes when conditions are really good and I am in good shape… been rare lately.
AND FOR RAPID SURFING?
Volume changes a lot but for length i feel well between 5’4 and 5’8. Thickness is around 2 3/8’’ with a similar foil when shapes get thicker. Width i really don’t care as long as the overall aspects of the shape look alright.
WHAT’S YOUR HOME SPOT?
Eisbach in Munich. … and I spend a lot of time in the Peniche area. Where there are friends, it feels like home.
DREAM DESTINATION?
West Oz, Indo, Maldives and that other one starting with an M. Wherever currents and crowds are low. Wakeparadise Milano is epic and I’d love to check the artificial rapid in Chelan.
OTHER BOARD SPORTS?
I love snowboarding and split boarding! Anything that gets me out in nature and out of everyday office life.
